“I’d love like I’m not scared"

Hope: “Here’s what I would do differently: I’d love like I’m not scared, give when it’s not fair, live life for another, take time for a brother.” For King & Country, “Fix My Eyes On You”

The Word Of God: READ, Mark 4:35-41

Consider This: I really like the old TV show, “The Lone Ranger.” At the conclusion of all the drama that the episode was all about, you could usually hear these words, “who was that masked man?” Today’s scripture passage, found in Mark chapter 4, is one of my favorites in all of the Bible. The reason I like this passage so much is because I see myself in the same shoes that the disciples were wearing. The disciples were often accused of being slow of thinking, hard-headed, or even lacking in faith. Perhaps they were all those things. But perhaps they were a lot like us, they were human. When they found themselves in the middle of a storm with no land in sight, they panicked. They were not certain of what to do. However, they then remembered a person who was with them. They called out to Him and He heard their cry.

I find myself operating in a similar way today. What will happen with this Covid-19 virus? Will the medical community develop an immunization that can limit the harsh effects of this disease? Will we see a day when we don’t have to live in fear? Then I recall the lesson from today’s Bible passage. Jesus got up and spoke, “quiet, be still.” He calmed the storm that threatened his disciples. Then they replied, “Who is this? Even the wind and waves obey Him. Be assured, we are only beginning to realize He is in control of all situations, even ours. Who is this? He is our Comforter and our God.

Prayer: Gracious and loving GOD, remind us today, even the wind and the waves obey You. May we take comfort in knowing we are your children and You care about us each day, please keep us calm as we realize who You are. Amen.
