That was the bad news

Here’s Hope: “Hope has 2 beautiful daughters. Their names are anger and courage; anger at the way things are, and courage to see that they do not remain the way they are.” (Augustine)

The Word of God: Read Joshua 1:1-9

Consider This: The Bible passage for today is one that we can relate to as people confronting this Covid-19 situation. The people in Joshua’s time were facing very uncertain circumstances. Their leader, Moses, had died. They were about to enter a land they had never been to before and a new leader, Joshua, was coming of age. I’m sure even Joshua wondered, what is going to happen to us as a people?

That was the bad news or uncertainty of the whole situation. However, there was good news; Joshua had already demonstrated a strong faith in what his God could do. The Israelites had already seen God perform great wonders like the parting of the Red Sea. Now they needed to be reminded what God could do again.

As Christian disciples today, we need to remind ourselves of what God can do once more. Where can we turn to for these reminders? We are blessed to have several proven resources: First, we need to place our faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ. Next, we can call out to our God in prayer. Never underestimate the power of prayer! And just as God spoke to Joshua, God still speaks to us through His Word, the Bible. Listen to God’s words to Joshua, “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night.” And furthermore, in Joshua 1:9b, “Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

What a blessing we have in being God’s children. We are in relationship with the Author of the Universe! He hears us 24/7 as we pray to Him. He loves our families even more than we are capable of loving them. He has given us a written book of His promises. Please dedicate more of your time today to read your Bible so you are reminded that God will be us no matter what we face in our world.

Be encouraged and share your encouragement with others, they need that assurance that God is in control and He loves and cares for them.

Prayer: Gracious and loving Lord, we praise You that You are such a caring and loving Father. Thank you that because of what we will celebrate this Easter, Christ’s resurrection, we can be called your children. Remind us through your Word, the Bible. You will never leave us or forsake us.

We praise You this day because You are worthy of all our adoration. Amen.
