Who Built the house you live in

Here’s Hope: “Oh, how great is the love the Father has lavished upon us that we should be called the sons and daughters of God. We are speechless, so amazed, we stand in awe of your grace, we stand in awe of your mercy, you have saved us.”

Bible Reading: Psalm 127:1-5

Consider this: Who built the house you live in? I remember the house we moved into when I was 5 years old. My parents had contractors named Jimmy Rogers Flowers and his brother, Billy Flowers, that enabled my Mom and Dad to become first time home owners in 1965. Just in the last few weeks, as my Dad has become a resident of an assisted living facility, we have had to sell his home which he lived in for 50 plus years. It has been a very emotional time for me as my family has had to go through the process of emptying out my Dad’s home. This past weekend as our family was there in Smithfield sorting through all the remnants of that house, I could not help but reminisce about growing up there in that old house.

I was reminded how fortunate I was to be blessed with a mother and father who loved and cared for my every need as a child, teenager and young adult. I am truly thankful for my family of origin.

Today, I am grateful that I have been adopted into God’s family. Psalm 127 which is our reading for today reminds us, “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.” How comforting those words of Scriptures are to “us” who are of the family of God. We can have the assurance that our Heavenly Father is still taking care of us, even today in the midst of this pandemic. Have you placed your trust and hope in Jesus today? He is waiting with open arms to welcome you into His family. Let Him be the builder of your house.

Prayer: Our Lord and our God, we praise You this day that only You are capable of building and maintaining a house that we can inhabit for eternity. We thank You for your goodness and your love for us as your children. Amen.
